The Hong Kong Sevens 2025, supported by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and organised by the Hong Kong China Rugby (HKCR), will sprint into a thrilling new era when it is hosted at the new Kai Tak Sports Park Stadium from 28 to 30 March. 30 elite global rugby teams will compete in 72 matches over three days at the tournament, which will be held for the first time at the new state-of-the-art Kai Tak Sports Park Stadium with a capacity of 50,000 spectators. HKTB will play a starring role in the sporting extravaganza and has organised a host of crowd-pleasing elements to add to the excitement. The opening ceremony will feature a laser show while the closing ceremony will include a pyrotechnic display, for the first time, set against the stadium’s open canopy roof. A group of popular South Korean baseball cheerleaders will meanwhile ramp up the tournament atmosphere and highlight Hong Kong’s allure as Asia’s events capital. HKTB has also launched a targeted overseas promotion strategy to entice spectators and raise Hong Kong’s profile as a premier destination for world-class sporting events.
Kai Tak Sports Park Debuts as Host of Hong Kong Sevens
Three Days of Electrifying Matches Coupled with a Dazzling Spectator Experience
HKTB is supporting HKCR in introducing a spectacular laser show at the tournament’s opening ceremony to add to the drama of the traditional lion and dragon dance performance. The eye-popping display will feature iconic Hong Kong together with classic scenes from past tournaments, accompanied by a kaleidoscope of lighting effects and powerful rhythms.
As the tournament comes to an end, the closing ceremony will include a pyrotechnics display above the arena’s open roof. A choreographed 10-colour display reaching a height of 25 metres will be projected from 28 launch points, complemented by 8-metre-high columns of flame on the pitch to conclude the tournament in unforgettable style with a mesmerising tapestry of visual effects.
South Korean Cheerleaders Team gets Spectators in the Mood
HKTB has invited seven members from leading South Korean baseball cheerleaders team KIA Tigers Cheerleaders – Apex, famous for their viral Pikki Pikki dance, to perform at matches. Led by captain Kim Han Na, the squad includes Yoo Se Been, Park Sung Eun, Cheon So Yun, Lee So Min, Yoo Se Ri, and Go Ga Bin. Making their debut appearance in Hong Kong, the cheerleading stars will perform a variety of dances on match days. Their high-energy dance routines and engaging interactions with the audience in the stadium, combined with flash mob performances in the event’s Fan Village, will elevate the tournament atmosphere to fever pitch.

HKTB has launched a targeted promotion strategy tailored to the unique characteristics of overseas and Mainland visitors, and has teamed up with Cathay to stage activities and showcase promotional content in MTR stations across the city. To attract rugby enthusiasts from Australia and New Zealand, HKTB used the power of social media and collaborated with travel agencies to promote exclusive Hong Kong Sevens package deals. These packages include signature Hong Kong experiences, encouraging tourists to visit and driving visitor spending. Advertisements were also strategically placed at major landmarks and high-traffic stations in Sydney and London, to generate international exposure for the tournament.
Multiple international influencers have been invited to Hong Kong by HKTB to experience the excitement of the Hong Kong Sevens firsthand, tapping into their extensive social media networks to amplify the event’s publicity. The influencers include rugby stars Ryan Wilson from the UK and Matt Giteau from Australia, as well as sports bloggers on the Mainland’sonline platform Xiaohongshu, all of whom will share the exuberance and dynamism of Hong Kong with their millions of followers.
A delegation of senior executives from the tourism sector in Australia, the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, the US, and Canada is being flown in by HKTB to promote the appeal of the new Kai Tak Sports Park to the international tourism industry. The executives will have the opportunity to visit the sports park and experience the thrills of the Sevens in person. The delegation will also visit the Sha Tin Racecourse and Victoria Peak, embark on a local food tour in Sham Shui Po, and visit Art Basel Hong Kong. Soak Up the Party Atmosphere in the Stadium and the brand-new Sevens Fan Village
The South Stand’s Stage inside the Stadium will burst into life with performances by a lineup of stars, including electronic dance music pioneer DJ Pete Tong from the UK, Italian singer-songwriter GALA famous for the song Freed From Desire, and award-winning British rock band Kaiser Chiefs. The multi-purpose event area to the east side of the stadium will meanwhile be transformed into the brand- new Fan Village. This vibrant hub will be open to ticket-holding fans with live matches broadcast on giant screens, food and beverage stalls, bars, retail stores, and a dedicated children’s area. With a host of entertaining experiences and exclusive opportunities to meet and greet the teams, the village is the perfect place for fans of every age to create unforgettable memories of the Sevens together.
